What to Use for an Erotic Massage

With Valentines Day coming up, you may be keen to spoil your lover with an erotic massage. But there are many ways to do it and many things you can use, so best to think ahead to plan what will be the best method for you and your partner on that special evening. Read on to discover what to use for an erotic massage.

(I have even added a handy table at the bottom of this post to make deciding easier! Ain't I lovely?)

When planning to give your significant other an erotic massage, it is a good idea to prepare what is best for you to use ahead of time. You can just use your hands, but massage oil is great to make things slippery and easier for long strokes on the skin. Oils feel much nicer for a massage and they are almost always scented for sensual stimulation.

If for whatever reason you want something non-scented for massage, then you can always use a personal lubricant which can work great for skin on skin contact. A silicone based lubricant is often a good choice to use as you don’t need to use very much of it and it doesn’t soak in to the skin very well so keeps everything nice and slippery for a good amount of time.
It is important to remember that oil and silicone lubricant needs to be washed off thoroughly afterwards. Perhaps you could use this as an opportunity for a naughty shower together to scrub each other down. Oils and silicone lubricants can stain fabrics though.
Also, many massage oils are not to be used on the genitals and are not compatible with condoms. So if sex is likely to follow after a massage, you should be sure to wash your hands before touching your lover’s more sensitive areas. Silicone lubricants are fine to use on the genitals though, and can be used with condoms, but should not be used with other silicone products, such as sex toys made from silicone.
However, you can counter all of these possible negatives by using a water-based personal lubricant. Durex have a selection of personal water-based lubricants that also double up as massage oils, which are safe to use for massage and sex and they are also scented to stimulate your senses.

You could use a flavoured water-based lubricant if you want to add a twist to your erotic massage by giving a little lick and nibble to your partners erogenous zones in-between stroking and kneading with your hands. Flavoured lubricants are also great for oral sex and can be used for regular sex too.
But the one problem with many water-based lubricants is that they can dry up quickly, feeling tacky as they absorb in to the skin, and needs topping up regularly. So if you choose a water-based lubricant for massage, then keep the bottle nearby for swift re-application.
Massage Candles
Massage candles are highly popular these days, made from a wax that melts at a much lower temperature than regular candle wax. The liquid from the wax is warm, but should not be too hot and is skin safe, perfect for giving a sensual massage. They are often delicately scented and have deep moisturising properties for a real pampering massage.
Simply light the candle and enjoy the fragrance until the wax liquidises, turning into a deeply nourishing, slippery massage lotion. Blow the candle flame out and check the temperature is right by dipping a finger in the melted wax. If you think that the temperature is a little warm for you or your lover, then you can leave it for around 20-30 seconds and check again. You can either pour some of the liquid onto the palm of your hand, or lightly drizzle or drip the liquid from the candle on to your lover, to begin the massage. The wax will set again in its own time when left to cool, but you can re-light it again to give another massage treat! It is important to remember that massage candles should not be used as a personal lubricant and are not safe to use with condoms.
Massage Stones
Massage stones are smooth, clean stones that can be heated up for a very deep massage. To use, just heat them in hot water, pat dry and leave them to cool until they are at a skin-safe temperature then simply place them on your partner’s shoulders and back and let the heat from the stones do the work.
Alternatively, you can use a stone in each hand to use and give an intense massage to work and ease out the knots and aches from the day by stroking them down the muscles or using them in small circular motions. The heat from the stones penetrates deep in to those tight areas, and is particularly good if you suffer from achy muscles. Heat stays in the stones for a good amount of time, great for unwinding and relaxing after a hard day.
